American actress and singer, Olivia Rodrigo is of Filipino and European heritage. She is most notably recognized for her work on Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. In an interview with Disney Channel, Olivia Rodrigo explains, “my Filipino heritage comes from my great-grandfather. He came on a boat from the Philippines when he was just a teenager.” Additionally, she mentions that one tradition that has carried over into her generation is making Filipino food, her favorite being Lumpia (a type of spring roll). On January 8th, Olivia released her debut single “drivers license”. It became an instant success and hit No. 1 on the US iTunes and Apple Music charts, ultimately making her the first Asian-American woman to accomplish this. Through all of her success, Olivia Rodrigo continues to inspire her audience, showing them that nothing is impossible.
